We are very proud to share that Natchitoches Parish Schools are featured in today’s Boston Globe Magazine in an in-depth article about reading and math achievement across the United States.
🔗 Read the full feature here: https://5il.co/3qjtx
The piece highlights the incredible progress our students and schools have made over the past five years, even during the pandemic, noting that Natchitoches Parish has achieved record-high scores in grades 3-8 reading and math. While much of the nation struggled, NPSB students gained more than a grade level in reading from 2019-2024, placing us above the national average for the first time ever 📈
The article credits the dedicated work of our teachers, leaders, and students, as well as the implementation of evidence-based literacy practices, teacher collaboration, and innovative supports across the district. From our youngest learners at L.P. Vaughn to upper grade classrooms at M.R. Weaver and beyond, the story of growth and resilience in Natchitoches Parish is being recognized nationally.
Superintendent Grant Eloi shared: “We had another public health crisis, which was our school system, and we had to act.” That action is now paying off, and the nation is taking notice.
We are so proud of our students, staff, and school communities for the hard work and dedication that led to this recognition. This is NPSB excellence in action!💙

Recently, Natchitoches Parish Schools and local law enforcement were made aware of concerning social media posts. Out of an abundance of caution, these reports were taken seriously, and a full investigation was conducted in partnership with law enforcement.
The investigation determined the posts were not intended as threats, but rather a prank carried out by two juveniles. The videos were linked to a nationwide social media trend where individuals film themselves engaging in acts of public urination and share the content online.
Although these actions may have been meant as a joke, they caused unnecessary alarm and created the perception of something more serious. We encourage parents and guardians to talk with their children about the risks of participating in online challenges. What may seem trivial or humorous can result in significant consequences when others interpret the behavior differently.
Importantly, there is no threat against Natchitoches Parish Schools or any of our campuses. This information was confirmed last night before the start of school today, which allowed us to move forward with the school day as planned.
The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we will continue working closely with law enforcement to investigate and address any concerns.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and today (September 10) is National Suicide Prevention Day💙
Talking to your child about mental health is important💬 It can be tough to know what to say when your child seems to be struggling, but your support and even a small conversation can make a big impact.
Here are some ways YOU can help:
🔹Don’t wait for your child to start the conversation—choose a time to talk.
🔹Speak calmly, ask directly how they’re feeling, and watch their reactions.
🔹Listen without judgment or rushing to “fix” things.
🔹Reassure them they are not alone and that help is available.
💡 Remember: Asking for help does not mean weakness—it means courage.
📲 For immediate support, call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (available 24/7).
🔗 Want to learn more about how you can support someone in crisis? Visit 988lifeline.org/help-someone-else for tips on active listening, what to say (and what not to say), and the 5 Action Steps to help.
