Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day (9/10), NPSB joins communities across the country in recognizing Suicide Prevention Month and sharing this year’s important theme: “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.”🎗️
Changing the narrative starts with making it okay to talk about difficult feelings and reminding our students that they do not have to face those feelings alone.
For parents and caregivers, this can mean creating a safe space for your child to talk and knowing when to reach out for additional support. For students, it means knowing that it is okay to speak up when things feel overwhelming and to reach out to someone you trust.
A conversation with a parent, caregiver, teacher, counselor, coach, friend, or another trusted adult can be an important first step.
Throughout September, we’ll be sharing reminders and resources to help our NPSB community start conversations, listen without judgment, and support one another.

Water service has been restored at all schools that were dismissed today: Natchitoches Central High School, NSU E-Lab, NSU Middle Lab, L.P. Vaughn, Natchitoches Jr. High, and Natchitoches Provisional Learning Center.
All NPSB schools will be in session as regularly scheduled on Thursday, September 10.

Louisiana law regarding marijuana in and around schools changed effective August 1, 2026.
Under the new law, marijuana possession on school property, within 2,000 feet of school property, or on a school bus can result in:
📌 Up to 1 year in prison
📌 Up to a $1,000 fine
The law also applies to smoking or vaping controlled dangerous substances in these locations, including THC vape pens.
For students in grades 6–12, school discipline is separate from criminal consequences. A first occurrence involving marijuana may result in a recommendation for expulsion, while a second or subsequent occurrence requires expulsion for at least two complete school semesters.
We encourage all students and families to know the law, understand the consequences and make responsible choices.

We're excited to announce the launch of our new Live GPS Bus Tracking System, in partnership with Ecco Ride Transportation!🚌📍
Starting next week (August 24-28), we'll kick off with a soft launch for six routes: Routes 2, 3, 51, 77, 146, and 92. Then for the three weeks to follow, the remaining school zones will gradually be added.

For the 2026-27 school year, parents and guardians will be able to use a new GPS bus tracking system designed to provide live, real-time bus location updates.
The new system is currently being finalized and will be ready for use within the first two weeks of the school year. Once it is available, parents and guardians will receive an email with instructions on how to access and use the new bus tracking system.
We look forward to providing this new service to our families very soon!
