As Concertmaster (the highest-ranking violin position in the orchestra), June led an ensemble of more than 100 of the top string and wind musicians in the state during the All-State performance in New Orleans over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. The orchestra was conducted by Dr. Gene Moon, Director of Orchestral Studies at California Baptist University.
“Being the concertmaster of the All-State Orchestra was the culmination of every tireless hour of practice I have dedicated to my violin. It is an incredible honor to lead such a talented ensemble and turn all my hard work into a performance the audience could enjoy and appreciate.” –Yujun Yao
According to NCHS Orchestra Director Lincoln Hall: “Being selected as concertmaster of the All-State Orchestra is very prestigious for high-school violinists in our state. It is the first time this century that a Natchitoches Central student has been awarded this position, and it might be the first time ever.”
Originally self-taught on the violin, June began formal instruction in the NSU Middle Lab School Orchestra and now continues playing violin in the NCHS Orchestra and through private study with NSU Professor of Violin Dr. Andrej Kurti.
One year ago, June earned Assistant Concertmaster as a freshman violinist but left the ensemble to be with her family following the unexpected passing of her father. This year, she returned and earned the most respected violin seat in the orchestra.
We are incredibly proud of June and her extraordinary achievement on the violin!💛
