Continuing our celebration of Black History Month, today we are featuring Amia Brown, a Senior at Natchitoches Central High School, in part thee of six.
My name is Amia Brown and I am an African American girl. I am a senior at Natchitoches Central High School and plan to attend Northwestern State University to study nursing. The journey to finding beauty in my history has not been easy. Since I was a little girl I have always been very sensitive and emotional. So every year when Black history month came around and our classrooms would watch educational videos about our history, it would bring me to tears. In the beginning of time we as black people were kings and queens and were treated as such. Throughout time we have lost such a great mindset of being kings and queens. 2022 taught me a lot about loving myself and embracing my minority. I felt excluded and different in multiple organizations and had to learn that my difference was beautiful. So to all the young girls and boys who feel different, remember you are beautiful and so is your history.
